By S.A. Mawhorr e-buzz Chicago-based ADEXS, developer of software to manage business documents, recently received $3 million in venture capital at a time when such financing is at a four-year low. The fresh infusion of cash was led by Foundation Capital, based in Menlo Park, Calif. The money will help ADEXS adapt its software to more industries. The company also appointed Tom Arnold as chief executive officer. He has management, sales and marketing experience from companies such as Clarify, Cadence Design Systems and Mentor Graphics. Expanding: Skokie-based Forsythe Solutions Group recently acquired the operating assets of Piedmont Technology Group, a provider of information technology infrastructure and services. Piedmont has been based in Charlotte, N.C. Forsythe now has 35 offices around the country providing a range of services including leasing on technology equipment, consulting, engineering and outsourcing. Smart toolbox: Sears, Roebuck and Co. is building a smart toolbox for its service technicians. The company has agreed to purchase 10,000 rugged laptops from Itronix as well as 10,000 mobile base stations from Wireless Matrix. By combining the two pieces of equipment, technicians will have immediate access to product information while doing repairs in the homes of customers. A technician repairing a dishwasher will have access to clues for diagnosing the problem online, the ability to find out if parts are available and tap into satellites to find the best route to a customer's house. New products: Vernon Hills-based Zebra Technologies recently introduced two new bar code label printers, the TLP 2824 and LP 2824, designed to sit on desktops. Free software: Riverwalk Consulting Group is offering a software tool free to help set up a wireless network at home.
